# awg-proxy — AmneziaWG for MikroTik (timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c) > awg-proxy is a ~90 KB RouterOS container that lets the native MikroTik WireGuard client connect to AmneziaWG servers (AWG 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1; Cloudflare WARP configs work too). The router does the WireGuard encryption; the container only rewrites packet headers, padding and junk packets. It is installed with an offline browser configurator that turns an AmneziaVPN `.conf` into RouterOS commands. Current repository: https://github.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c — the old Go version timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik is deprecated. > > Русский: контейнер для RouterOS, который подключает штатный WireGuard MikroTik к серверам AmneziaWG. Ставится конфигуратором https://timbrs.github.io/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/conf3.0.html — он работает офлайн и никуда не отправляет ключи. Документация есть на русском и английском, разделы совпадают. Key facts (docs reviewed 2026-10-29, awg-proxy 1.4.4): - RouterOS 7.4+ with the `container` package (7.18+: System → Packages → Check For Updates → Enable container → Apply Changes, or `/system/package/update/check-for-updates`, `/system/package/enable container`, `/system/package/apply-changes`; older: the npk from Extra packages). RouterOS 7.21+: `awg-proxy-{arch}.tar.gz` (OCI). RouterOS 7.20 and older: `awg-proxy-{arch}-7.20-Docker.tar.gz`. RouterOS 7.22+: install from the registry `ghcr.io/timbrs/awg-proxy:latest` and update with `/container/repull` or the configurator's `-update` script. - Architectures: arm64 (hAP ax², hAP ax³, RB5009, CCR2004/2116/2216), arm/ARMv7 (hAP ac², hAP ac³, RB4011, RB3011), armv5 (hEX refresh E50UG, hEX S 2025 E60iUGS, hAP ax S E62iUGS — separate image `awg-proxy-armv5.tar.gz` / `ghcr.io/timbrs/awg-proxy:latest-armv5`), x86_64 (CHR). MIPS (hEX RB750Gr3, hEX S RB760iGS, hAP ac lite, hAP lite, RB2011) and tile (CCR1xxx) are NOT supported: RouterOS has no container package for them. - Needs about 16 MB of free RAM. On 16 MB-flash routers put the container on an ext4 USB stick and set `/container/config set tmpdir=usb1/pull`. - Modes: normal client (default), reverse (site-to-site between two MikroTiks), server (an AmneziaWG server for many clients on a VPS or a MikroTik; in the configurator: "MikroTik as an AmneziaWG server"). The configurator no longer offers site-to-site: the server mode joins two MikroTiks just as well. - Speed is limited by the router CPU doing WireGuard crypto, not by the proxy. - Port range: `AWG_REMOTE=host:20000-29999` (up to 32 ports/ranges) draws a random port per connection, hops off a silent one in ~15 s and, since 1.4.4, moves to another port every 30–120 min without a drop (`AWG_PORT_ROTATE`, off for WARP). The server must forward the whole range to its port: `scripts/awg-ports.sh` on a VPS, the "More server ports" field for a MikroTik server (it needs 1.4.4+). ## Docs (Russian, primary) - [README](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/README.md): summary, model compatibility table, quick start - [FAQ](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/faq.md): common questions in users' words — will it run on my router, speed, 16 MB flash, comparison with other containers - [Installation](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/install.md): getting the `.conf`, WARP, manual step-by-step install, install without GitHub access - [Updating](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/update.md): registry updates, self-healing, moving off a file install - [Environment variables](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/env.md): every `AWG_*` variable - [AmneziaWG 3.0, 3.1 and IPv6](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/protocol.md): wire format, S1–S4 ≥ 12, fallback chain, Happy Eyeballs - [Routing, DNS and MTU](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/routing.md): routes through the tunnel, PPPoE/MTU, DNS address-list routing limits - [Server mode](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/server-mode.md): a MikroTik or a VPS as an AmneziaWG server, direct AmneziaWG clients, routing between clients - [Troubleshooting](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/troubleshooting.md): exact RouterOS/container error messages and fixes - [Port range](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/ports.md): make the server take AmneziaWG on thousands of UDP ports (scripts/awg-ports.sh, one command), and how to give the range to the configurator ## Docs (English) - [README](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/README_en.md) - [FAQ](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/faq.md) - [Installation](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/install.md) - [Updating](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/update.md) - [Environment variables](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/env.md) - [AmneziaWG 3.0, 3.1 and IPv6](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/protocol.md) - [Routing, DNS and MTU](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/routing.md) - [Server mode](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/server-mode.md) - [Troubleshooting](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/troubleshooting.md) - [Port range](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/docs/en/ports.md) ## Optional - [Configurator](https://timbrs.github.io/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/conf3.0.html): offline command generator (paste a `.conf`, copy RouterOS commands) - Command-line generator for agents on the user's machine: in a clone of the repository, `npm install jsdom`, then `node tools/awg-gen.js amnezia.conf` prints the configurator's RouterOS commands locally (same code, nothing sent anywhere); `--help` lists the options - [Releases](https://github.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/releases): image archives for every architecture and RouterOS format - [CHANGELOG](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/CHANGELOG.md): what changed in each version - [AGENTS.md](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/timbrs/amneziawg-mikrotik-c/main/AGENTS.md): for people changing the code — build, tests, invariants
